Spencer Island is a beautiful bird sanctuary located on the Snohomish River. We went there early January and the weather was beautiful. Some parts of the river or swamps were frozen and Daniel enjoyed walking and sliding on them.
The views on the north cascaded was stunning, you are walking on this beautiful path surrounded by water and the cascades are in front you. I can say that this is one of the peaceful hikes I have been too.
It’s an easy 6 miles hike and so close to Seattle (40 minutes drive).
My favorite parts of the hike:
- Watching the blue heron stand still for 10 minutes, not moving.
- Watching the ice melt on the bridge and create a great pattern using the shade of the rails.
- Seeing two deers hiding in the bushes in front of us.
- The view of the north cascades.
